A Lexington-based insurer has been named president of one of the nation’s largest privately held insurance brokerages.

Rob Motley was recently appointed president of Florida-based Insurance Office of America, the fourth largest privately held insurance brokerage in the U.S., according to a news release.

Motley has been in the insurance industry for more than 30 years. He has held both regional and national roles with IOA in the past. Motley joined IOA in 2003 and was appointed to the board of directors in 2008. In 2013, he was named a region president and in 2022 became East Coast division president.

“I’m excited and humbled at the same time to take up the mantle of president of IOA, a great company and one I’ve had the privilege of being a part of for so many years,” Motley said in the release. “My commitment is to serve our people, our clients, and our carrier partners as we continue to build upon and deepen the relationships that define the bedrock of who we are as a company today and who we will become tomorrow.”

Motley is a graduate of the University of South Carolina and a certified insurance counselor. He worked with Carolina Insurance Consultants starting in 2000 and in 2003 acquired CIC’s Columbia operations and merged it with IOA.

He has been involved in the development of innovative insurance industry tools including IOA’s RiskServe solution.

“Building out our infrastructure with the right people provides the foundation we need to continue on the upward growth path,” said Heath Ritenour, chairman of IOA and chairman and CEO of IOA Group, the brokerage’s parent. “These leadership transitions are strategic and reflexive of what IOA has been doing for several years as the insurance industry has gotten more complex and we remain on our trajectory to operate and excel with excellence.”

Headquartered in Longwood, Florida near Orlando, IOA has more than 1,300 associates located in over 60 offices in the U.S. and United Kingdom.
