Locals restaurant to open Daniel Island location

Locals, a sushi and sports bar in Mount Pleasant, is planning to open a second location on Daniel Island early next year.

The restaurant is leasing 4,355 square feet of retail space at 50 Central Island St. in Central Island Square, a new development.

General manager Shawn Sherman said that when he saw the building was available, he jumped at the opportunity to be part of Daniel Island.

“The growth that they’re doing out there is … fantastic,” he said.

Sherman said Locals also does a lot of catering on Daniel Island, so opening a location there was a logical step.

The Mount Pleasant location, at 1150 Queensborough Blvd., has the sushi sports bar concept “dialed in,” Sherman said, so he’s not planning on changing much beyond serving brunch on the weekends.

“We’re trying to take the Mount Pleasant concept and expand,” he said. A sushi sports bar is unique, Sherman added, and he doesn’t want to lose what sets the restaurant apart.

He said he also wants to have live music at the Daniel Island restaurant.

“Even if you don’t want to watch sports, come for the food … or the music,” Sherman said. “We cater to a lot of different age groups.”

The new location is expected to open in January.
