Solar developer Southern Current is investing $100 million in a new Chesterfield County project – news that comes a day after the Charleston-based company announced a $340 million investment in 17 new projects in Darlington County.

Southern Current develops solar projects in residential, commercial and utility-scale markets across the Southeast.

“Southern Current is excited to be working with Chesterfield County,” Paul Fleury, the company’s chief development officer, said in a news release. “The economic development team has been a strong supporter of the growth of clean energy, and we're excited to become part of the community.”

In an earlier statement, Fleury said the Darlington projects would roll out in the next three to five years.

In June, Southern Current announced a $30 million investment in new facilities throughout Anderson County. That news came on the heels of the company’s $20 million investment in a new project in Aiken County and its collaboration on a 7.61-acre solar field in Kingstree. Southern Current also invested $100 million in five new solar farms in Lee County and partnered with Lowcountry Regional Water System to commission a 1.4-megawatt solar farm in Hampton County in February.
