The city of Columbia needs volunteers for its third annual Public Space Public Life Survey. Participants will count pedestrians and cyclists at a specified downtown location for four hours.

The data collected on March 22 and March 24 will provide a clearer picture of who uses the area’s public spaces and how they use them and allow city planners to promote a more livable downtown, the city said in a news release.

Brief volunteer training will be provided by city staff.

The survey is part of a partnership between the city and the Central Carolina Community Foundation to conduct an ethnographic, architectural analysis of selected public spaces.

The counts will take place from 7:30 a.m. till 7:30 p.m. on March 22 and from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m. on March 24.
