South Carolina Secretary of State Mark Hammond’s office is offering free seminars for citizens interested in becoming a notary public.
The seminars will address state laws governing the duties and responsibilities notaries hold and provide information how notaries can avoid issues related to the unauthorized practice of law.

The eight seminars are offered in regions throughout the state, beginning Aug. 27 at Midlands Tech’s Airport Campus:
Lexington County: Aug. 27 at 6 p.m., Midlands Technical College, Airport Campus, register
Spartanburg County: Sept. 10 at 6 p.m., Spartanburg Community College, register
Beaufort County: Sept. 17 at 6 p.m., Beaufort County Council Chambers, register
Horry County: Sept. 24, at 6 p.m., Horry Georgetown Technical College, Conway Campus, register
Greenville County: Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m., Paris Mountain State Park, register
York County: Oct. 15 at 6 p.m., York County Library, register
Charleston County: Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Trident Technical College, Main Campus, register
Aiken County: Oct. 29 at 6 p.m., Aiken Technical College, register
The seminars will last approximately one hour.
Notaries are not required to attend a seminar. Citizens can register and attend a seminar convenient to them, regardless of their county of residency. Those who cannot attend the seminar can watch an online webinar.
