Cryptocurrency education initiative opens in Gaffney

Litchain Corp., a crypto mining hardware company, ushered Gaffney residents into the world of cryptocurrency at a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the company’s blockchain education hub earlier this month.

The company opened the center on 189 Hyatt Street on March 11 after recruiting former Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce CEO Jonna Turner as community relations director in 2021, according to Turner.

Company founder and CEO Tony Tate draws from his experience as a blockchain analyst in the Orlando, Fla., market, but is a native of South Carolina. Tate announced plans to invest $80 million in a blockchain data center in Gaffney last September.

Litchain Corp. sells hardware to cryptocurrency miners, and according to a news release, unlike most mining centers, incurs monthly fees only for electrical costs, network fees, support and other associated costs — not the use of the hardware.
