Cigarette alternative manufacturer Juul Labs Inc. is investing more than $125 million in a new assembly facility in Lexington County in a move expected to create 500-plus jobs.

Launched in 2015, Juul makes noncombustible smoking and vaping alternative kits. Instead of free-base nicotine, Juul pods are filled with a proprietary e-liquid formula that combines glycerol, propylene glycol, natural oils, extracts and flavor, nicotine and benzoic acid, according to the company’s website.

The Lexington County facility, expected to begin production this summer, will assemble and package Juul products. Job applicants should contact recruiting and staffing websites Randstad or Aerotek.

The location of the facility was not provided in a news release from the S.C. Department of Commerce.

“We are excited to work with community leaders to support the creation of high-quality American jobs for a diverse and inclusive workforce drawn from across the Midlands as we continue to invest in helping adult smokers switch from combustible cigarettes and combatting youth usage,” Juul Labs CEO Kevin Burns said in the release.
