The Lowcountry Hospitality Association will host the region’s largest hospitality-only job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Charleston Area Convention Center.

More than 60 hotel and food and beverage industry employers will be represented, offering job opportunities from all over the Lowcountry. Openings for all skill levels will be available, as well as for part-time and full-time positions.

Employee resources will also be on site, such as the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority, Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, Ben’s Friends and the S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation Department.

The event is free and open to the public.

Harold’s Cabin will host Chess with Charles at 6 p.m. Thursday, an opportunity for chess challengers to win a dinner for two.

Charles Lee, a Harold’s Cabin employee, has spent his career in Charleston’s food and beverage industry. He has also been an avid chess player since he picked up the game at age 11.

At Chess with Charles, Lee will play up to three opponents simultaneously on a 20-minute clock. The restaurant has pledged dinner for two as a prize to anyone who can beat him.

Harold’s Cabin is at 247 Congress St. in downtown Charleston

New York City-based hospitality group JF Restaurants is opening its first Charleston restaurant this fall. The Loyal will open on the ground floor of the Greystar building at 465 Meeting St. in downtown Charleston. This will be the restaurant’s second location, with the original on Bleecker Street in New York City.

The Loyal will serve a collection of dishes from its New York location, but a significant portion of the menu will be inspired by Southern ingredients. Dishes include a half-pound Piedmontese burger with a “22-step tomato” and duck fat tater tots.

Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, founder of JF Restaurants, will give a sneak peek of the restaurant at the Charleston Wine & Food Festival’s Culinary Village on March 6. Fraser will showcase vegetable-led dishes to encourage sustainable eating.
