Richland County residents can learn more about the Richland Renaissance plan at a public meeting today at 5:30 p.m.

Richland County council members and county administrator Gerald Seals will attend the meeting, to be held at Columbia Place Mall at 7201 Two Notch Road on the second floor of the former Dillard’s department store. The meeting will last until 7:30 p.m.

The meeting site is the proposed new headquarters of the county’s administrative offices under the renaissance plan, which also includes a new judicial campus and courthouse in downtown Columbia and a Lower Richland-centered services hub.

Council members have said the plan can be paid for with a combination of land sales, bond anticipation notes and installment purchase revenue bonds and would not require raising taxes.

Proponents say the renaissance project is necessary to improve access to city services and health care for citizens in the southeastern and northwestern parts of the county and reduce 16,000 identified areas of blight.
