Retirement community developer buys Lake Murray land

Cameron General Contractors, a Lincoln, Nebraska-based firm with projects under construction nationwide, has purchased 12.29 acres of land at the intersection of North Lake Drive and Lake Murray Boulevard for $4 million.

A spokeswoman for Cameron said an independent senior retirement facility is planned for the property, though no groundbreaking date has been set and no name selected yet.

NAI Columbia principal and director of retail services Patrick Palmer represented the seller in the transaction.

Cameron’s numerous projects under construction include Okatie Pines, a luxury retirement community in Hardeeville. The company also has projects under construction in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio and Pennsylvania and is developing projects in Connecticut, Florida, Michigan, Virginia and Utah.  

Cameron works with sister company Resort Lifestyle Communities to develop senior living communities, according to its website. Cameron locates, purchases, zones and develops properties before turning day-to-day operations and management over to Resort Lifestyle Communities, also based in Lincoln.

Both companies were founded in the mid-1990s.

According to Cameron’s website, each of its communities consists of a central living area with two wings featuring 115 to 128 apartments. The one-, two- and three-bedroom units include full kitchens, pre-installed appliances and other contemporary features, while central common areas include a theater, gym, convenience stores, activity rooms and a dining room that serves three meals a day.  

Each new community creates 35 jobs in the area in which it’s built and brings in more than $20 million annually in goods and services, according to the website.

In other area transactions:

• Colliers’ Ryan McCue represented the buyer in the purchase of 179 acres in Clarks Hill for $275,000 from the estate of Rosamond W. Crafton. McCue also represented the buyer in the purchase of 79 acres in Eastover for $146,150 from The Hangar LLC.
