Allegiant brings 3 nonstop flights to CHS

Allegiant will bring three new nonstop, seasonal routes to Charleston International Airport in April.

The routes will fly twice weekly between Charleston and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport; Charleston and Indianapolis International Airport; and Charleston and Pittsburgh International Airport. The seasonal routes will stop sometime in October.

• The Pittsburgh flights begin April 4, initially flying Wednesdays and Saturdays, then moving to Thursdays and Sundays.
• The Cincinnati flights begin April 5, flying Thursdays and Sundays.
• The Indianapolis flights begin April 6, flying Fridays and Mondays.

Airline officials said the Lowcountry’s tourism scene was a main driver in the decision to launch the new routes. Travelers in the Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Indianapolis markets wanted nonstop flights to the Charleston region.

The airline said the twice weekly routes will bring nearly 30,000 passengers to Charleston.

“The addition of these three new important cities to our expanding network of nonstop markets will help to ensure another year of record passengers traveling to and from our region,” Paul Campbell, CEO of Charleston County Aviation Authority, said in a news release. “Allegiant’s unique business model will make air travel a realistic option for more people in our area.”

The Las Vegas-based discount airline offers one-way fares starting at $48. The airline will fly Airbus A320s, which hold 177 to 186 passengers; Airbus A319s, which hold 156 passengers; and Boeing MD-80s, which hold 166 passengers.

Allegiant also operates out of Myrtle Beach International Airport and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina.
