Thermal spray coating manufacturer Flame Spray North America is expanding its existing manufacturing facility in Laurens County, investing $4 million and hiring 20 more employees.

The company recently purchased property next to its Woodfield Industrial Park facility, according to a news release. This acquisition will broaden Flame Spray’s capabilities to service the U.S. aerospace market by dedicating this facility to treating aircraft engine components with thermal spray coatings.

Flame Spray North America, which produces thermal spray coating mainly for industrial gas turbines and aircraft components, is owned by the Italian firm Flame Spray S.p.A. In 2011, the company established operations in Fountain Inn – its only presence outside of Europe. The company also operates facilities in Italy, Hungary and Croatia, according to the news release.

The expansion and hiring will be completed over the next three years, according to the news release.

In April 2011 the S.C. Department of Commerce announced that Flame Spray would open with a $9.2 million investment and 50 jobs. Two years later, the company announced its first expansion of $9.1 million and 45 more jobs.

"With this new acquisition, we look forward to accelerating our strategic plan to expand our business into the aircraft market as well as growing the job market by creating new jobs and boosting the economy in Laurens County," Marco Prosperini, president and CEO of Flame Spray North America, said in the news release.
