CreateSpace plans to lay off 58 employees in North Charleston by July 3, according to a regulatory filing (.pdf).

On Demand Publishing LLC, a division of Amazon that helps authors self-publish, said it will discontinue its paid professional publishing services for authors at its office at 4900 LaCross Road.

The office is not closing, but that entire department will be laid off, the company said in a letter sent last month to the S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce and North Charleston.

“After a thorough review of our service offerings, we’ve made the decision to discontinue CreateSpace’s paid professional editing, design and marketing services,” an Amazon spokeswoman said in an email.

The employees were notified last month as required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Layoffs will start in March and end in July. The company said it is working with employees to find new roles at Amazon, including in the North Charleston office.
