Columbia Metropolitan Airport is accepting submissions for its 2022 Art in the Airport program.
The initiative, begun in 2020, will showcase the work of four local artists in the airport, giving travelers a glimpse of area landmarks and creativity.
Applications will be accepted until Jan. 22 at 5 p.m. and must include at least five images representing the type of artwork to be shown. Artists must live in Aiken, Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda, Sumter, Lee or Newberry counties.
That information, along with personal information such as name and address and artist statement and bio, must be emailed to [email protected].
The rotating exhibit will be shown in the terminal connector, the walkway between the security checkpoint, and the departure/arrival gates, according to a new release from CAE. The airport will provide labels and signage for each piece, and artists will frame, wire and install their work at their own expense.
Submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee, and selected artists will be notified Feb. 7. A public announcement will be made Feb. 8.
Artists featured in past displays have included Columbia muralist Ija Charles, Harold Branham, Sonya Diimmler and Christopher Garvey.
