An established area printing and graphics business will become the third tenant in the newly redeveloped Dunn Electric Co. building in Columbia’s Cottontown neighborhood.

Columbia Printing & Graphics, established in 1978, will take over a 2,150-square-foot space at 2238 Sumter St., according to a news release. The business, which owner Scott DeRidder said has undergone significant expansion, is relocating from 1204 Sumter St. between Gervais and Lady streets.

“We have increased our lines of business to offer high-speed color and black-and-white digital, offset and wide-format printing,” DeRidder said. “We also print legal documents for attorneys along the East Coast, and we offer a full line of promotional products.”

Cason Development Group, which has revitalized several Cottontown properties, purchased the Dunn Electric building in 2016 from Joe W. “Bill” Dunn. The original Dunn building was built in 1945. The portion which Columbia Printing & Graphics will occupy was built in the late 1960s and includes woodwork from the original building.

“We are excited about this new retail use coming to the Cottontown area,” Cason Development Group owner Frank Cason said. ”It is encouraging to see a long-standing businesses like Columbia Printing and Graphics desiring to move to that area of town and invest money for the long term.”

Indah Coffee and Circa Barber Shop occupy the adjacent space.

“We’ve been able to reuse almost everything that was stored in the building, including all of the wood and light fixtures,” DeRidder said. “We just felt like it was important to reuse as much of the building materials as possible to keep the character of the era.”

Cason Development Group expects work to be completed on the Columbia Printing & Graphics space within this week, with the business opening Monday.

Gift basket retailer A Taste of the South relocated from 3827 Broad River Road to 2222 Sumter St. in January.

“We’re located between Indah and A Taste of the South; we feel like that is a perfect move for us,” DeRidder said. “We’re also excited about being with other locally owned businesses.”
