Although airlines are cancelling flights along the U.S. coast, and some airports are shutting down, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is operating on a normal schedule in the face of Hurricane Florence.

The airport is monitoring the storm while encouraging passengers to stay tuned for communication from airlines, according to Dudley Brown, GSP spokesman.

GSP is prepared for issues that could arise due to high winds and heavy rains, he said. Generators have been checked and fueled. Drain inlets have also been cleared. The airport is also reducing the potential for debris that could lead to damage and affect airfield operations, he said.

The website FlightAware is reporting thousands of canceled flights having a ripple effect internationally because of the hurricane.
