After a holiday season that saw low travel numbers, Charleston International Airport is getting some needed boosts this week.
Allegiant is now offering nonstop service twice a week from Charleston to St. Louis, Mo., and Louisville, Ky., the company said in a news release. The service will begin May 28 with $49 one-way flights, pending restrictions.
CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, Elliot Summey, said Allegiant's new nonstop services to MidAmerica St. Louis Airport and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is a win for the Charleston area.
“Allegiant has consistently offered a unique value proposition for Charleston area travelers with nonstop service to destinations previously unserved,” he said.
The St. Louis route, previously postponed as a result of the pandemic, adds a new market to the Las Vegas-based airline’s list of destinations.
Allegiant first began flying out of Charleston in 2018 with nonstop service to Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Indianapolis. The airline primarily connects travelers to small-to-medium cities with all non-stop flights and lower than average fares.
“Allegiant continues to offer value pricing combined with nonstop service to new cities and that is a winning combination for a hospitality industry beginning to slowly recover from a challenging year,” said Helen Turner Hill, CEO of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
