Scbio Life Sciences Forum coming to Columbia

Registration is underway for SCbio’s Midyear Life Sciences Forum scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 14 at the Columbia Convention Center.

The half-day program is focused on critical issues and opportunities facing life sciences, the fastest-growing industry in South Carolina, and offers attendees access to guest speakers, discussion sessions, and chances for networking between business leaders, academia and students, according to a news release.

SCbio is South Carolina’s investor driven economic development organization exclusively focused on building, advancing and growing the life sciences industry in the state. Life sciences is currently a $25.7 billion annual industry in South Carolina, and the industry here is growing faster than in any other southeastern state, according to statistics from SCbio.

The event kicks off at 8 a.m. with breakfast and an opening address on the University of South Carolina's $300 million health sciences campus being built in the BullStreet District, according to a news release. The address will be delivered by Julius Fridriksson, vice president of research for the University of South Carolina, and Robert Hughes of Hughes Development, lead developer for the BullStreet District.

The day also includes tracks focused on leadership development and workforce, and an industry career fair that will run from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and allow college and university students from around the state a chance to network with life science companies including Nephron Pharmaceuticals, Rhythmlink International, Poly-Med, Charles River Labs, The Ritedose Corporation and SHL Medical. Students must register in advance to participate online.
